December already!

I keep scrambling to get the ultimate topic for my "nou-hablou-espanol" publication... There! now you know why this post is also nonsense.

Well, I'm sure most of you people have already noticed 2005 is almost over. December is gaining momentum, almost at 50% throttle, will reach 100% soon, full speed ahead and then it dies. Bummer!

What does it mean? What does it tell you that this year (not just ANY year, but THIS ONE) is coming to an end?? I will give you a minute to think about it...

That's your answer? Wrong!! Whamy! Double Whamy! It means absolutely and positively NOTHING! Let me explain..

Dates are man made, so they are not intrinsic to nature. A year is an arbitrary number. Sure it measures the earth revolving about the sun, but do you REALLY think about it when you think "a year". Of course you don't, unless you are an astronomer, and you are not. Think about this one: Most human beings do not correlate to 2005. In Asia they count the year zero differently (2005 was a VERY LONG time ago...). Moreover, human beings have roamed the earth aproximately 1.5 million years (give or take) and years as we know them have been used a ridiculous small percentage of that time. Seasons were used before calendars were invented. Days and nights as well.

Days and nights... hmmm? They don't exist. Really! There is always day and there is always night. It depends on your point of view and your understanding of basic physics. The sun is always shining somewhere! In addition, visible light is meaningless as well!! The fact that OUR EYES can only detect the visible light spectrum does not make these particular frecuencies "special". If you don't understand this, please stop reading.

I can go on and on (honest) to explain why the end of a year does not have any empiric meaning. Ask a tree or a duck. However, MEN need to have pauses, break points, margins, etc. That is why it is accepted without much thought that a year has ended. Fact is, we need it to be so. This way we can erase "last year" and begin to live again. It gives us another chance to do whatever it is we want to do. Most people don't realize that this exact same choice is available to all of us NOW, every second, always.

Please don't live your life in years, not even weeks (as I do). Live it continously and fully. Like it or not, every instant is brand new and you can do of each what you please.
